LIFE IS JUST TOO SHORT

My respected brothers,

Today I wanna share with you about our life in this dunya. It’s not about the fertilisation, embryological development, parturition, childhood, adolescent or adulthood because otherwise we will be like studying HBS once again.

What I’m interested to tell you today is our life is just too short.

Yes, some of us may argue that they will be living until 70 years old without any chronic disease or may be up to 100 years. Yes, you are definitely correct. But, ultimately you will die, too. Death, if you realise, is the nearest to us among all things because it could come anytime. Therefore, do we should afraid of death?

Brothers,

Death is a gift to meet Allah. To die as syuhada, as martyr is a gift to meet Allah. If you have spare time and you don’t have nothing to do, browse to YouTube and look for the interview with the Palestenian kids. The moderator interviewed 2 palestinian girls, one of them is 12 years old and the other one is 11 years old. They said, syahada, to die for the sake of Allah, is not death.

Now look, how these small kids have a very pure faith. They are very enthusiastic to die, to meet Allah because they know syuhada, the martyr has only one result, which is the paradise where they can meet Allah, where they can meet the Rasulullah, where they can meet the Companions, and also the place where they can meet their family who died before them.

However, please do not go out and do suicide bombing. Because that is not what Allah’s need. And as I said in last week khutbah, this is not Allah’s command. Yes, Allah has commanded the palestenian to combat the muslim enemies. Even the prophet has said one day, there is one nation, that when the enemies want to overpower them, they will not be able to do so. On the other hand, this nation will keep on fighting, fighting and fighting. And the companion asked, who are they? Rasulullah replied, people around the Baitulmaqdis.

My dear brothers,

So what is our role as students in Dublin? Yes, definitely Allah has commanded us to study medicine and makes Muslim feel the greatness of it. This is our way of jihad. Most of the time, people misinterpret this word, jihad. What do we mean by jihad is to strive for something. The Palestinians are striving for their country and we are striving to achieve our goals to be a muslim doctor, pharmacist, physiotherapist, engineers, which every single muslim can have a benefit from us, insyaallah.

Nevertheless, in achieving our goals, we need to always review, to recheck our intention. Are we doing this for ourselves, for our family, for our wife, or for Allah S.W.T? is this the correct path for us to secure our place in paradise?

In Suratul Isra’, verse 18 and 19, Allah said:

Which to the nearest meaning:

Those who strive for his life in this world (dunya), then Allah will give the dunya to Him instantly, easily, without delay as he wants to. Then, during the day of judgement, Allah will give him the Jahannam, the hellfire. And he will enter the hellfire with full of ashamedness.

And in the next verse, Allah said, to the nearest meaning:

And those who want the aakhirah, and really strive for it, and furthermore he is a faithful person, therefore Allah will bless his effort.

Brothers, look.

If we strive only for our life in this world, definitely we will get it. But, at the day judgement, we will be in the hellfire. Nauzubillah.

Our life in this world is too short. It is as short as the gap between the iqamah and salaat. ok, when we was born, our dad usually perform athan and the iqamah to our right and left ears. And when we died, people perform the salaat for us.

Oh, may be that is not convincing enough. Ok, I give you an example. Let say insyaallah we will be living in this world for 70 years. But how many years would we spend in paradise? It is infinite. We will be there forever. If we are trying to divide between the years we live in this world, and the number of years we will be spending in the paradise, absolutely we can’t. Because 70 is divided to infinity. We cannot compare our life here and our life in paradise.

Brothers, let us think for a while. Is it worth for us to spend almost 30 years just to obtain a certificate? Just for a piece of PhD? How much money you could earn by becoming a professor? How many properties could you collect as a millionaire? Please brother, I’m not against any of your ambition to become reach. Go for it. Muslims need rich and influential people. We need everything to rebuild the great empire of faith. Allah also said, do not forget our part in this world.

But, as I said earlier, review our niah, recheck our intention whether we are doing this to please Allah, or just to be arrogant to the other people. And are we doing this to get the benefit during the judgement day or for dunya only?

Brothers, I’m sure most of us are familiar with the first hadith of 40 hadiths compiled by Imam Nawawi.

The hadith says, ‘innamal ‘amalu binniyaat’. Every action is started with niah, intention. And the scholars agreed that the niah alone covers 1/3 the perfection of our deen.

Therefore brothers,

As conclusion, what ever we do, please do it sincerely for the sake of Allah. Always review our intention and always recheck ourselves. I plead to myself and to you as my brothers, please consider our death and where we are going next. And please make use our time in this dunya, to invest as much as possible for us to have a sufficient cash to buy Allah’s Paradise.
