DEEN AND SPENDING FOR ALLAH

A-úthu billáhi minash shaytánir rajeem. Bismilláhir rahmánir raheem.

Al hamdu lillahi rabbil ‘alameen. Was salaatu was salaamu ‘alaa ashrafil mursaleen. Sayidinaa wa nabi’na wamoulanaa Muhammadin wa’ala aalihee wa sahbihee wasallim.

My Dear Brothers,

Our khutbah today is about understanding the deen which is the way of life and Spending, in the way of Alláh.

There are many Muslims, who believe that Alláh expects nothing more from them, than to go through the daily, weekly and yearly rituals, without stretching themselves and making sacrifices for the sake of their communities. These Muslims seem to think, that their salaat, their fasting and Hajj alone will earn the pleasure of Alláh and secure their place in paradise.

This is the matter of deen, our way of life. Our deen is not what we wanna do, but it is Allah’s command. I give you two examples.

First, if we believe that salaat is a symbol of total submission to Allah, why it is haraam, it is strictly prohibited to pray when the sun is going up and the sun is going down, which simply to say after the fajr and asar prayer? Furthermore, if we want to regard the payer as our total submission to Allah, why the number of rakaat is different? Fajr prayer, is 2 rakaat, zuhr, asr and isya’ are 4 rakaat. Ok, fine, they are all even numbers.

But why suddenly, it is 3 rakaat for maghrib? This is odd number. Should I add up one more rakaat because the more I do, the better I am? Yes, you may. But, is this what is Allah command us to do? Do you think you’ll please Allah and Allah will get please with your extra rakaat? No. because this is not Allah’s command.

Second example, if we think that fasting is the best way to proof our entire submission towards Allah, why there are certain days that are haraam and strictly prohibited to fast? For example, during the eid ul fitr, syawal the 1^st. why we cannot fast eventhough we know that fasting is very good to our health, to upgrade our piety, and to prevent ourselves from the maksiat?

Brothers, look.

This is the beauty in islam. Everything we do, we should follow Allah’s command. And we should realise that Allah has made us to be his slave, to obey Him, to serve Him and to please Him.

In Suratuzzariat, verse 56, Allah has said:

Wama halaqtul jinni wal insaa illa liya’buduun…

Which means, I have not created the Jin and The human, but only to serve me.

Yes brother, this is Allah’s command. Short, but ambiguous. and to make it clearer, Allah has said, the greatest people among you is the one with true piety with true taqwa. But, how does Allah defines the taqwa, the righteousness?

Therefore, Allah has mentioned in Suratul baqarah, verse 177.

Righteousness is not turning your faces towards the east or the west. Righteous are those who believe in GOD, the Last Day, the angels, the scripture, and the prophets; and they give the money, cheerfully, to the relatives, the orphans, the needy, the traveling alien, the beggars, and to free the slaves; and they observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat); and they keep their word whenever they make a promise; and they steadfastly keep on in the face of persecution, hardship, and war. These are the truthful; these are the righteous.

You see brothers, Allah not only define righteousness, the taqwa, as salaat, zakaat, or even hajj. But Allah asks more than that.

Allah asks us to donate the money, which is to perform sedeqah to infaq your money for the sake of Allah and for the ummah.

Allah also mentioned in suratu taghaabun, verse 17.

Which means, If you lend GOD a loan of righteousness, He will multiply the reward for you manifold, and forgive you. GOD is Appreciative, Clement.

And, in another beautiful metaphoric verse, we are asked in Sura Al-Baqara v245:

"Who is he that will loan to Allah a beautiful loan which Allah will double unto his credit and multiply many times? It is Allah that gives (you) poverty or plenty and to Him shall be your return."

Furthermore, in surat At-Taubah, verse 41, Allah has said, to the nearest meaning:



go, move! for the sake of Allah, eventhough it is easy or it is hard, with your properties and soul. because, that is better for those who know.

And also the companion has shown us their passion towards islam by donating their properties.

There was a famous story and I’m sure some of you might familiar with this.

Prophet Muhammad SAW once asked the companions about their contribution towards Islam, preparing for the coming battle.

“ya Umar, what have you given for Islam?”

Umar replied,

“I have given half of my properties”

Then, the prophet asked Abu Bakar,

“what have you given for islam?”

And Abu Bakar humbly replied,

“I have given all the wealth that I owned”

The prophet asked him again,

“so, what else have you left for your family?”

And abu baker said,

“Allah and His Messenger”.

You see brothers, the level of piety among the companion. They did all these because they know that Islam not only urges them to perform syahadah, salaat, fast, zakaat, and hajj. Yes, they are important because they are the pillars of islam. But, islam needs more than that. One of them is sadaqah, donating our money for the sake of Allah.

Brothers, please remember that all the properties, all the wealth and all the money that we owned right now is the bless from Allah. With his permission, we are here in Dublin, getting 900euro, 2000euro a month just to perform our duty as student. So, why don’t we contribute a little bit for Allah’s sake? And for sure, Allah will return back the money in manifold and forgive us. In fact, there is one hadith saying that if we donate our money to build a mosque, Allah will build a castle for us in paradise.

innalláha wa malaaikata yusallúna alan nabi. Yá ay yuhal latheena ámanu sallú alayhi wasalli mú tas leema. Allahumma salli alá Muhammad, wa ala áli Muhammad, kama salayta ala Ibrahim, wa ala ali Ibrahim. Allahumma barik ala Muhammad, kama barakta ala Ibrahim, wa ala ali ibrahim. Fil ála meen, innaka hameedun majeed.
